Video editors that use Final Cut Pro, sound professionals that use Logic Pro X, photo editors that use Photoshop, and the list goes on. The general rule of thumb here is that if you belong to the professional group of users that require that specialized software, an iPad Pro is simply a no-go. IPad OS doesn't have those professional apps. Live Loops is a dynamic way to create and arrange music in real time. Ridiculously powerful. Seriously creative. Logic Pro 9 versus Logic Pro X. The Library: One of the most notable changes that should have reassured Logic users immediately that the redesign has the pro user's best interests in mind is the Library's move from the right to the left side of the Main Window.

This is perhaps the most logical reorganisation in Logic Pro X, placing the Library. I been using reason since 2. I still have logic pro x but only use the sound library of it and browse through that inside of reason. My biggest plus in reason is the automation. Logic Pro X was released on July 16th, almost four years to the day after Logic Pro 9 — the longest that users have had to wait for a major new version in the product's year history. Apple switched Logic Pro from boxed product to download nearly two years ago, so it's no surprise that Pro X is available only through the App Store.

And the large installed base of L9 and the familiarity of the older version means even some new clips will reference L9.

As mentioned previously, Logic 9 is much older so of course there is more material available. Also Logic Pro X was not that good a while ago but since a couple of last patches, it has become much better and more stable to work. I would definitely recommend X over 9! I've decided to stick to LP9. Primarily because all my plugins are 32bit. The interface is a little less snappy than L9 but has improved over the past few updates.

Generally though, I find LPX to be overall better than L9 and there are few new functions and improvements that really help to streamline the program and improve workflow. Given that there have been consistent updates since LPX's initial release I think things will continue to improve.

To select a different patch, click inside the Library and not on the channel strip. If you accidentally click the disclosure triangle to the left of the currently selected channel-strip setting, you'll close the Library. Track Enable: There's a new button on the track header that enables and disables the track. This will be familiar to GarageBand or Pro Tools users.

A Logic Pro 9 user may get confused if neither the track or region is muted but it's not playing back. In this case, the track might be disabled.

When the track in enabled, the button turns blue. Unfortunately the caps lock key is not available as a Key Command. However, we can still call it progress: Musical Typing has a few new useful features not possible before with caps lock — you can still operate the sequencer!

Also, pressing the Tab key will sustain notes. The Escape Key: It's a bit disarming for old-school Logic users to find the Escape key doesn't access the floating tool menu by default. Probably not as helpful as this book, but definitely a great source for high level context. For instance, all I knew was that Logic was very robust and could likely "do it all," but was confused as to what that really meant. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos where guys are using synthesizers, bass synthesizers, MIDI sequencers, drum machines and more to create amazing music.

Turns out, Logic contains its own digital version of each of the aforementioned components and more. But I wouldn't have really known that without reading through the Help content in Logic. And I've only really scratched the surface. Yet, I was able to immediately surmise what I wanted to know about all the hardware components - and their digital manifestations in Logic - as well as some really awesome additional topics like History of the Synthesizer, and The Nature of Sound, etc.

So, to recap, buy this book. But also, don't forget the inherent documentation in the software itself. Really worthwhile, both. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Having a great passion for music, I played guitar when i was young but this faded away when football, girls and other distractions came in i did continue to DJ but this again faded.

I wish I had sustained it as would better understand writing and reading music. Now 29 years of age with a good career I could afford to buy myself a MacBook Pro, logic 9 and a midi keyboard as audio production is something I always wanted to do even if just as a hobby as my musical interest never fades I have picked up my guitar again.

I bought logic and played around with it for a week but knew there were far more to its capabilities and owed it to myself and logic to learn a good foundation of the functions.

I am shrewd when it comes to buying things and spent 4 months before I decided on buying a Pioneer plasma TV once to give you some indication. In my search i came across this book and even found a thread on a forum in which the author David Nahmani provided helpful advice. From the responses of those in the thread and these reviews and i decided to purchase. I am just through the first chapter and aside from learning things to improve my workflow, I have thoroughly enjoyed the lessons.

Sure this may be basic for those in the know but if you are at the lower end of the learning spectrum then there is no doubt you will learn lots of useful stuff here. I know it will be great as a reference manual once I have finished for certain things that may have escaped my memory shortcut keys etc. There are lots of help videos online and mac sites to help you and you may well prefer learning by video however, I would recommend this book highly.

It also comes with a a DVD and additional files for later lessons. Like it!! Report abuse. I'm just relearning Logic after being a user back in the Emagic days. Thank you. Logic studio contains Logic Pro. On top of that u get a few more applications: - Mainstage which can be bought also in the app store - Soundtrack pro, which seems now discontinued - Waveburner, here i am not sure, it's not in the app store - as far as I know - so maybe also discontinued.

It's kinda sad cause theres is replacement for Soundtrack or Waveburner so far. Can-o-worms question for sure Music-Industry mandatory software? Maybe in some circles. What are you trying to do, record a band or create music? Logic Pro 9 is included in Logic Studio Get Logic Pro 9. It will suit all your needs and more. It is industry standard among the top few names. No instruments. You should look into Reason 6 as well.
